JTET : Court accepts petition challenging teacher eligibility test pattern

JTET : Court accepts petition challenging teacher eligibility test pattern

Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test News :

RANCHI: The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday accepted the petition filed by one RadheshyamSahu challenging the pattern teacher eligibility test (TET) based on which the examination is scheduled to be organized on April 26.

However, the court did not accept the petitioner's request to stop the state government from organizing the test on the scheduled date.

A division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Tatia and Justice Jaya Roy accepted the petition of Sahu in which he had challenged the patter of TET and government's decision to make regional language compulsory.

According to the petitioner's advocate Manoj Tandon, the court, however, said that if the points raised in the petition are found to be correct at end of trial then the government will have to return examination fee of the candidate who appears in the test.

"My client has challenged the decision of the state government to include regional language as it is against the guideline set by NCERT followed by all the state in the country," said Tandon.

The petitioner has also raised question on teaching in regional languages in schools and colleges in the state. In most of the schools and colleges there is no facility for teaching regional languages and if it is included in the TET most aspirants will fail to qualify the examination.

The court has asked the state government to file its reply on the point raised by the petitioner within three-weeks. The court has fixed June 11 for next date of hearing

JTET / Jharkhand TET : Teachers' eligibility test from April 26: Jharkhand Academic Council

JTETJharkhand TET   : Teachers' eligibility test from April 26: Jharkhand Academic Council

RANCHI: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Saturday announced that the teachers' eligibility test (TET) will be held on April 26 in two shifts.

JAC chairperson Anand Bhushan said, "The admit cards can be downloaded from the JAC website from April 2." The test will be conducted to recruit 18,000 primary and secondary teachers in the state.

The aspirants are happy that the TET will finally be held but they want a domicile policy to be framed to ensure that only the candidates from the state get selected. needed to be made before the examination is conducted.

Manoj Kumar, a candidate said, "The new regulations are not favourable for the residents of Jharkhand. According to the rules, just clearing the TET will not make one eligible to for a teacher's job. The marks obtained by the candidates in matriculation, intermediate and graduation examinations will also be taken into consideration," he added.

If the rule is implemented, it will increase the probability of candidates from other states to get recruited in the TET as the condition of higher education in Jharkhand is not good and students do not score much here, said Kumar. "This is why we have been demanding a domicile policy so that at least candidates from Jharkhand will be given priority in the recruitment process."

Some TET aspirants have threatened that if their demand for framing a domicile policy is not met, they will boycott the examination. Arvind Pandey, an aspirant said, "If our demands are not fulfilled, we will protest against the examination and make sure that it is not held. After all, it (TET) is about the future of people of Jharkhand."

JTET : Students in silent rally for amendments in TET rules

JTET : Students in silent rally for amendments in TET rules

Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test News :

RANCHI: Members of Jharkhand Chhatra Sangh (JSC) on Monday organized a silent procession from Ranchi University to Raj Bhavan and submitted a letter to the governor demanding changes in the rules of Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) and lack of teachers in the university for regional, tribal and Urdu languages.

JSC chairperson S Ali said: "New TET regulations are not in favour of candidates from Jharkhand. According to the rules, just clearing TET will not make one eligible to get recruited as a teacher and their educational merit will also be looked into during recruitment. This way, candidates from other states will have more chance of getting recruited as their marks scored in matriculation, intermediate and graduation will be higher than the locals because students of Jharkhand have never had very good educational background. We want educational merit removed as a criterion for recruitment of teachers."

JSC's other demands includes removal of SC/ST reservation for the 4,401 posts of Urdu teachers in the state. "Earlier, three examinations were held for recruitment of Urdu teachers in 2008, 20010 and 2011, but not a single application came in from the reserved category. This time, we are demanding that instead of SC/ST, reservation should be given to women and OBC," said Ali.

Making Urdu as a medium of writing examination in Jharkhand Public Service Commission Examination was also among one of the demands. Colleges of Ranchi University lack teachers for regional, tribal and Urdu language. Ali said: "Due to shortage of teachers in almost every college for these subjects, students are facing a lot of problems. We are demanding immediate recruitment of teachers of these subjects."

He added: "Many minority colleges and high schools do not offer courses in Urdu, tribal and regional languages. We want the courses started in all schools and colleges so that people can pursue studies in their mothertongue."

Teachers' eligibility test (TET) students end 11-day fast

Teachers' eligibility test (TET) students end 11-day fast

RANCHI: The successful candidates of teachers' eligibility test (TET) held in July 2011 whose appointments were cancelled by the Jharkhand high court in November 2011 ended their 11-day fast on Saturday after HRD minister Baidyanath Ram met them and assured them of a solution.

The successful candidates of the examination were demonstrating at Birsa Chowk since August 28, when the monsoon session of the assembly started. Out of the total number of people demonstrating, six were fasting and three of them had to be hospitalized

Chiarperson of Jharkhand TET Successful Candidates Association, Kunda Mandal said, "We have been selected in the TET examination but we were not given appointment letters due to the mistake of the department. It is not our fault if the state does not have a TET regulation. Then why should we, who have worked hard to pass, suffer?"

After the results of TET examination were declared, the unsuccessful candidates filed a petition in the Jharkhand high court claiming that the examination conducted was unfair, following which the high court cancelled the appointment of the 8042 successful candidates.

After the students went on fast for 11 days, Ram finally met them on Saturday and asked them to break their fast. Ram convinced the candidates that he will look into the matter and come up with a solution soon. "We will take legal help and try to find out a way to give these candidates their job," said Ram

Databank of Teachers

Databank of Teachers

According to the Statistics of School Education (2009-10), the total number of teachers in the country from pre-primary to senior secondary is 67.23 lakh. To meet the Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) norms specified under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, the Government has sanctioned 8.17 lakh additional teachers posts between 2010 and 2012 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)

The Government has taken several steps for preparing and providing quality teachers. The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Teacher Education for the XII Plan envisages establishment of District Institutes of Education and Training in all districts created upto March, 2011 and of Block Institutes of Teacher Education for expanding capacity of teacher preparation. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) grants recognition to institutions for starting programmes of teacher education. Several State Governments have also taken steps to expand teacher preparation capacity. In pursuance of the RTE Act, the NCTE has laid down the minimum teacher qualifications, including the requirement of passing the Teacher Eligibility Test as an essential qualification for being eligible for appointment as a teacher. Under the Sarva Shisksha Abhiyan, financial assistance is provided to the State Governments to enable the teachers of class I-VIII not possessing the minimum qualifications to acquire the same by 2015, and for training of in-service teachers for improving quality.

This information was given by Dr. D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Human Resource Development in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
